Investment Planning

* Life insurance is a contract between the policy owner and the insurer, where the insurer agrees to pay a sum of money upon the occurrence of the insured individual's or individuals' death or other event, such as terminal illness or critical illness. In return, the policy owner agrees to pay a stipulated amount called a premium at regular intervals or in lump sums. * Critical Illness Insurance If you lose your health, could you lose your home as well? Many Canadians help protect their home by buying mortgage life insurance. However, Canadians have a greater chance of having at least one occurrence of heart attack, stroke, or being diagnosed with cancer than dying before the age of 75. A critical illness can have a serious financial impact, such as unexpected expenses for treatments, caregivers, hospital visits, childcare, etc. At a time when you and your loved ones need the comforts of home most, your mortgage payment may become unmanageable. Fortunately, there is something you can do to help protect your family’s home from the financial impact of a critical illness. You could receive a lump-sum benefit of up to $2 million which is usually payable if you are diagnosed with an insured critical illness condition as defined in your policy and satisfy the applicable survival period. It has optional return of premium riders which may return up to 100% of your eligible premium if you stay healthy. * Disability insurance It is income paid to you weekly or monthly when you can’t work because of sickness or injury. The pay out provided may be stated as a percentage of income or as a set dollar amount. The policy defines how much you will be paid, how soon after you are disabled payments appear in your mailbox, and when they will cease. Benefits periods may depend on whether the disability was caused by an accident or illness. The longer the benefit period, the higher the premium will be. * Long Term Insurance In general, long-term care refers to help with basic activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, eating, and using the toilet. This help can be provided in the home, in middle-ground settings such as assisted-living facilities, or in nursing homes. Technically, long-term care insurance provides ongoing income to cover the costs of such assistance. Practically speaking, however, long-term care insurance is a tool for protecting the assets of retirees, most commonly you, your spouse, or a parent.
